Announced at Microsoft’s E3 press conference at E3 2018, Gears of War 5 was announced, along with a new trailer; before that, however, two new spinoff games were announced tied to the Gears of War franchise – Gears Pop, based off of Pop Figures, coming to Google Play and the Apple Store, and Gears Tactics, a PC RTS strategy game set 12 years before Gears of War 1, in the same vein as XCOM.
Gears of War 5 follows a new protagonist, Kate, as she bands with Marcus Fenix’s son in an icy tundra to ‘go back to where it all began’; melee combat seems to have been expanded, featuring new enemies created of flesh and machine… Gears of War 5 is expected in 2019.
